Commercial development of Djeroy-Sardaryinsky deposit phosphorites in Central Kyzylkum is one of the largest investment projects of NMMC. Reserves of the deposit are assessed at 303.6 mln tons of ore and 57.7mln tons of phosphorus pentoxide (Р2О5).
Commencement of the stepwise development of the Kyzylkum phosphorite deposit was a construction and commissioning in 1996 of Kyzylkum Phosphorite Complex (KPC) with the complete production cycle: from selective ore excavation to consecutive enrichment and output of final product - phosphorite concentrate and phosphorite powder (ground phosphate rock).
In 1997 NMMC began mining of phosphorite ore on the first section of Tashkura deposit and commenced construction of KPC Phase 1 for production of crude phosphorite powder with design capacity of 300 thousand tons per year. KPC Phase 1 was commissioned in April 1998.
The next stage was the implementation of production of calcined phosphorite concentrate suitable for ammophos production. The task was resolved within a short period of time with minimal capital expenditure in 2001.
For further enhancement of effectiveness of commercial development of Djeroy-Sardaryinsky deposit, quality improvement and increase of volume of phosphorite products, a composite process scheme for enrichment of phosphorite ore that combined rational elements of “dry” process with deep washing methods of enrichment with use of “instant” calcination as a finishing operation was developed and implemented in 2006. The composite process scheme makes it possible to produce 400 thousand tons of washed calcined concentrate and up to 200 thousand tons of washed dried concentrate per year. It is planned to increase production of the standard phosphorite raw material up to 800 thousand tons in prospect.
On KPC during mining of low-contrast phosphorite ore the batch radiometric separation of granular phosphorite has been implemented, which made it possible to improve quality of products and decrease losses of raw material in the depths.
The accepted strategy of development is in clearly planned stepwise modernization, technical and process re-equipment of production, construction and commissioning of new industrial facilities on base of modern high-performance innovation techniques and industrial equipment.
Implementation of the Program of stepwise complex development of Kyzylkum phosphorite deposits will make it possible to provide chemical plants of the Republic with own quality phosphorite raw material.
