Specialists and employees of the Department of railway transport of Central mining administration of “NMMC” JSC perform significant work on the development, improvement and reconstruction of railway communications, ensuring the safety of freight and passenger transportation by rail.
Efforts made to increase labor productivity at the enterprise are giving positive results. Last year, the department’s team completed the plan for transporting ore to Hydrometallurgical plant-2 ahead of schedule. Such results can be achieved thanks to the efficient use of diesel locomotives, which are the basis of the railway transport, and the fact that diesel locomotives have always been in good condition. A special role in maintaining the serviceability of a diesel locomotive is played by its cooling system.
The locomotive’s diesel generator works with a closed-type cooling system to reduce heating. It has two independent cooling circuits, each with its own pipe, water pump, radiator compartments and fan motors. The cooling circuit is designed to cool cylinders, bushings, turbochargers and manifolds. In winter, the cooler is used to heat fuel, the locomotive driver’s cab and water in the bathroom. This circuit provides high temperature and low temperature cooling.
In 2009-2013, diesel locomotives were often involved in extraordinary repairs at the Department of railway transport due to a malfunction in the cooling system. This adversely affected the stable process of ore transportation. These years were a difficult period in the activities of the Department of railway transport. In recent years, management and specialists have carried out a number of works based on an innovative approach to troubleshooting the cooling system of diesel locomotives.
