The 8th Uzbekistan International Mining and Metallurgy Forum (UIMF 2026) was held in Tashkent on 27–29 October, alongside the 20th International Exhibition MiningMetals Uzbekistan 2025, with the support of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The forum brought together representatives of mining and metals companies, government authorities, international organisations and industry experts to discuss key industry trends, technological advances and future growth opportunities.

Representatives of Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NMMC) took part in discussions on human capital development, digital transformation, energy efficiency and the adoption of advanced technologies in mining and metallurgical operations.

Bakhriddin Bozorov, Head of Information and Communication Technologies at NMMC, delivered a presentation entitled “Digital Transformation: Artificial Intelligence Technologies for Efficient, Safe and Sustainable Mining Operations.” He outlined how digital solutions and artificial intelligence can enhance operational efficiency and safety, improve management processes and support the sustainable development of mining companies. These capabilities are becoming increasingly important as the industry faces rising expectations in terms of productivity, resource efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Rano Kosimova, Head of Organisational Development, Transformation Division at NMMC, presented “Metallurgy 5.0: How Technology Is Reshaping Skills and Competency Requirements.” Her presentation highlighted the growing importance of workforce readiness as a critical factor in enterprise competitiveness amid rapid technological change. Alongside the adoption of advanced technologies, the ability of professionals to analyse data, make informed decisions and adapt effectively to changing operating conditions is becoming increasingly essential.

Particular attention was given to preserving and transferring professional expertise, strengthening mentoring practices and developing talent pipelines in anticipation of long-term investment and technology plans. Closer integration of academia, education and industry was also highlighted as an important foundation for building the engineering capabilities of the future.

NMMC’s participation in UIMF 2026 provided an opportunity to exchange expertise, gain insights into emerging industry practices and strengthen engagement with the international mining and metallurgy community.
