From 1 to 5 October, representatives of the Corporate Secretary’s Office, Finance Department, ESG function and Legal Department of Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company JSC (NMMC) took part in a practical training programme in Baku, Azerbaijan, as members of a delegation representing companies in the public sector. The programme was organised by I-Talent, a consulting and professional training firm.

The programme focused on modern corporate governance practices, ESG-related matters and the enhancement of decision-making processes, drawing on the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance 2023 and international best practices.

Participants examined case studies from leading public-sector companies and discussed key risks and potential conflicts of interest that may arise in the preparation, consideration, approval and implementation of corporate decisions. Particular attention was given to approaches for the early identification, assessment and management of such risks. The practical component of the programme included a boardroom simulation, enabling participants to work through a range of corporate decision-making scenarios and consider different courses of action in light of relevant risks, stakeholder interests and potential implications.

The programme also included meetings with representatives of leading Azerbaijani companies, including AzerGold, PASHA Holding and Agalarov Development. These meetings provided an opportunity to exchange experience and gain insights into practical approaches to corporate governance, decision-making and management processes.

The continuous development of professional expertise in corporate governance forms part of NMMC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its governance framework, enhance transparency and accountability, and align its practices with internationally recognised standards and best practices.
