The investment project being implemented by Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company for the development of the Muruntau gold deposit is an important component of the Company’s efforts to expand ore mining and processing capacity and sustain precious metals production. The “Muruntau Open Pit Development, Stage V, Phase II” investment project is a key element of NMMC’s long-term development strategy.

Today, the Muruntau open pit is approximately 6 kilometres long, 4 kilometres wide and more than 750 metres deep. The mining and geological engineering solutions being implemented are designed to enable the pit to reach a depth of up to 1,000 metres in the future.

Nuridin Kamolov, Head of the Muruntau Mine, spoke about the work underway and planned as part of the investment project:

«As part of the project, we plan to deploy modern, high-performance drilling rigs, hydraulic and electric excavators, and heavy-duty haul trucks. The project also provides for the modernisation of the material transportation system. These measures will support continued exploration, expansion of the resource base and the identification of additional mineral resources, while further improving the technical and technological capabilities of mining operations.

Work is currently underway on the construction of Conveyor Lines No. 5 and 6 to optimise mining and material transportation processes. A number of workshops are also being reconstructed to ensure the timely maintenance and repair of the open-pit mining fleet. The mine is currently meeting its target of mining 550,000 cubic metres of material per day.

The project will not only increase production performance but also make a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the region. Its implementation is expected to create hundreds of new jobs, with particular attention being given to securing the skilled workforce required for mining and processing operations. Demand is expected for specialists in areas including leaching operations, conveyor operation, control-room operations, electrical equipment maintenance and repair, and electric and gas welding.»

The measures aimed at ensuring the long-term operational stability and sustainable development of the Muruntau Mine will further strengthen NMMC’s position among the world’s leading gold producers and contribute to the sustainable growth of Uzbekistan’s economy.
